Oak Lodge Vision Statement
At Oak Lodge we strive to create a safe, nurturing, caring environment in which everyone is healthy, happy and ready to learn. We aim to provide challenging learning opportunities that foster a ‘growth mind-set’, encourage the development of confidence, resilience, independent thinking and the skills necessary to continue learning and adapting to change in an ever evolving world. We will create an environment where all learners develop an understanding of local and global issues. Pupils will have the ability to use technology confidently, safely and to support their learning or communication needs.
A flexible, broad, balanced curriculum that is relevant and accessible for all will be offered. Learners will be encouraged to develop positive relationships, effective communication including social interaction skills, and an appreciation of the importance of being part of a community. The need to develop literacy, numeracy and the ability to self-direct will be emphasised as being important preparation for further education, the work place and independent living.
Everyone will be encouraged to develop tolerance of differences, an understanding of rights, responsibility, fairness, democracy and mutual respect. Self-advocacy skills will be encouraged to ensure everyone is empowered and has a voice in a setting where each person’s contribution is of equal value.
Achievements and successes will be celebrated. Individuals will be encouraged to develop their talents and a positive self-image. They will be aware of personal challenges and will be supported by a highly skilled staff team using a range of strategies. The school will provide an appropriate environment and the necessary equipment to successfully meet the needs of all learners.
School leaders including Governors will continue to be committed to on-going development and improvement. To maintain and raise standards they will continue to use rigorous monitoring and evaluation systems and will think creatively about the direction of the school.
Recognition of the importance of fostering highly successful working relationships with parents, multi-agency professionals and the local community will be sustained and developed further, providing a holistic approach to the education, care and support of our children and young people.
