Acorns is a small dedicated centre located in our new purpose built, fully accessible modular buildings. Comprising four small classes with 7-12 students and each benefit from specialist staff, a life skills kitchen and a therapeutic and nurturing environment. A small multi-functional room is located in each classroom to provide additional space for therapies, sensory integration work, physio, quiet study, role play and social games.
Acorns provides total communication approaches throughout the school day to support their complex, special educational needs, including severe and moderate learning difficulties, visual and hearing impairment, Autism, speech and language, medical and communication needs. Students benefit from Makaton, Communication in Print, Attention Autism, Teacch approaches to Autistic Spectrum, exploring emotions through play, learning through experience and development of key skills for life and the use of social and emotional strategies. Our learning curriculum is personalised to match the student’s needs and throughout the week, they have access to subject specialist teachers as appropriate.
Students also access their own self-contained outside play and learning space, but can also access the main school playground and gym areas too.
