New transport applications

A new parent-led application for SEN transport was launched on Monday 25 April 2022. Parents of Hampshire children with an EHCP, were sent a letter detailing how to access the new application form, using the Education Online Portal (which is already in use for families to make an application for mainstream transport).

Should you need any assistance in completing a transport application, then you should contact your child’s current school or your SEN caseworker.  Transport department will liaise with you directly regarding the process of your application and of any transport arrangements that have been put in place for your child.

Determining Eligibility

The assessment for eligibility is completed by the SEN team. If eligible, the application details are referred to the Home to School Transport Team who will make the arrangements for the child’s journey to school.  Parents who wish to discuss eligibility, are advised to contact the Special Educational Needs (SEN) Helpline on 01329 316165 or alternatively email their SEN caseworker.  Parents will no longer be sent a letter from SEN indicating that they are eligible for transport assistance, which may result in an increase in unsuccessful transport applications.

Notification of the application outcome

Once the parent has submitted the application on the Education Online Portal they will receive alerts at key processing stages to let them know the status of their application.

Amendments to existing transport arrangements

Pupils who currently have transport in place and require amendments to their current transport, for example change of address or the need for wheel chair use, need to complete the online form to request these changes. The school are now no longer able to process the transport applications on your behalf.

Transport needs to be notified of any changes as soon as possible.  Any application or amendment can take 6-8 weeks for them to process. Please bear this in mind, as any delays may cause a period of time where transport may not be in place for your child.

Changes must be approved by SEN and transport team. No alternative arrangements should be agreed directly with drivers or escorts.
