Food Technology

 

Food Technology is a subject where pupils consistently make good to outstanding progress. It is taught in a fully equipped food technology room with a range of equipment and resources available to support a wide range of topics.  The room is set up with paired kitchen work areas like home.


Pupils work on developing a range of skills including:

 

  • Understanding health and safety in the food room

  • Developing an understanding of a healthy diet and life style

  • Developing kitchen skills like knife handling, using the hob and oven, using specialist equipment

  • Working with a partnersharing and developing skills and knowledge

  • Experiencing different foods and cultures

  • Budgeting to produce home cooked food

  • Opportunities to move into different rates at KS4

 

Qualifications Offered

 

BTEC Home Cooking skills Level 1 and Level 2

Level 2 Food Hygiene (to Level 2 BTEC students)
